The film Coach Carter was based on a true story of a man named Ken Carter who decided to change the way the basketball team was run at his local high school.
"Throughout his life and tenure as a Coach he has inspired and guided numerous lives of young men to reach their highest potential" (Coach Carter 2013) and these factors influenced the making of the film. The film reflects Ken's bold leaderhship style as he shut down all basketball games at the school despite protests from the community as 15 of the 45 players in the team were neglecting their academic work. The film shows the uproar of the parents and school but also Kens determination to change his team's lives and make them work hard. In real life Ken Carter is still coaching basketball and has become a successful author after releasing a book that explains how to "lead a more productive and successful life" (Coach Carter 2013).
